Capitol Day

Participants will learn about the process of passing laws in the Nebraska Legislature and how to effectively communicate with policymakers before breaking into small groups to visit directly with state senators. This event is open to all women in STEM careers and is ideal for those who have little previous experience advocating for public policy. There will be an optional virtual meeting on Monday, March 2 to help participants prepare for the experience. Agenda includes: 9:15am - Presentation from a state senator, 10am - Observe legislative debate, 10:30am - Visit in small groups with state senators, Noon - Lunch and debrief. Competitive Integrated Employment - Free Self-Paced Online Course

This free, self-paced online course is designed for North Carolina parents, caregivers, and professionals. The course focuses on Competitive Integrated Employment to help youth with disabilities build independence, gain job skills, and become active community members. Participants will learn how youth can work in the community, earn minimum wage or higher, and build a future after high school. The training covers benefits of working, addresses common fears and myths, and shares practical ways to remove barriers to getting and keeping a job. Even students with significant disabilities can succeed at work with the right supports. Training is accessible for 3 weeks from March 9-April 6, 2026. Certification of completion for 2 hours will be provided to participants who complete the training.

Youth Sustainability Symposium

A day of hands-on learning, coastal exploration, sustainable art, and real-world decision-making on Bald Head Island. The symposium engages high school students in thought-provoking, real-world conversations about conserving and preserving coastal resources for future generations. Activities include speaker series, career panel discussions, barrier island management group activities, sustainable art-making workshops, service learning projects (marine debris cleanups, oyster shell bagging, sea turtle cage building, trail maintenance), and reflection activities.
