Engineering Maker Program - Leprechaun Trap Design

Bring your creativity in this engineering maker program! We'll provide the materials, but it's up to you to create and build the structures that go along with the prompts. This sessions we will be designing and building a Leprechaun Trap using a variety of craft supplies such as toilet paper tubes, cardboard, paper chains, pipe cleaners, and more! Engineering and art from recycled materials is a great way to foster a child's creative expression and design thinking. This program encourages children to tackle problems through creative and innovative solutions. Children will also dive into the 6 processes of science they will observe, predict, question, test, retest and reflect on the materials, how best to use them, and if their solution works. NC Museum of Transportation: All Aboard! Steam Over Spencer

All aboard! Join us for the Steam Over Spencer: A Live Steam Model Train Event featuring several large operating model train displays with scale model locomotives powered by live steam! A large variety of locomotives and railroad cars will be featured during this event. These locomotives produce their own power from a variety of fuel sources rather than being powered by an electric current through the track. Owners of these fascinating models are expected to come from across the country. The museum's regular exhibits will be open and train rides are available for an additional price on Saturday and Sunday. Event will be held rain or shine. Living History Education Day

The Fort Towson Historic Site will host a day full of educational experiences teaching what life was like at Fort Towson more than 180 years ago. The event offers multiple learning experiences about life at the military outpost during the 1840s, when it served as a vital resupply point for soldiers headed south to engage in the Mexican-American War. Living historians in period clothing will provide historical demonstrations including the use of tools, laundress and domestic skills, drills, and activities specific to the fort's military history. Visitors can learn about the history of the sutler's store that served soldiers and surrounding towns until the fort's closure in 1854. Groups need to register before the event.
