NSU STEM Day runs from 8 a.m. to noon (CDT) on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Northwestern State University's main campus in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The event is designed for students in grades 9-12 interested in science, manufacturing technology, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, physics, engineering, and STEM-related careers (e.g., medical doctor, veterinarian, dentist, pharmacist, data analyst, environmental scientist, crime lab scientist, hospital lab clinician, factory manager). Students will interact with STEM faculty and students through hands-on science and technology demonstrations across five different 'tours' of four workshops each, in fields including engineering and manufacturing, wildlife and environmental science, veterinary science, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, physics, biomedical science, and microbiology. Students can learn about degree programs, events and organizations, scholarships, research facilities, and career opportunities. Turn an idea into a working product using AI! Students will use Google Gemini and Google Docs to explore software-based business ideas, select a promising concept, and build a working prototype. Along the way, they will practice key tech skills such as product design, requirements definition, evaluation of results, and refining their ideas through quick rounds of testing and revision. By the end of the session, students will leave with a software product they helped create. Held 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch provided. Open to students in grades 10-12. RISE Research is a selective 1-on-1 mentorship program where high school students in Grades 9 through 12 conduct original, university-level research under PhD mentors from Ivy League and Oxbridge institutions. The program runs for 10 weeks at roughly one to two hours per week. 4-H is hosting a National Youth Science Day on October 1st to inspire kids to take interest in STEM topics. The theme is 'Code Your World,' focusing on computer science and teaching coding skills through fun hands-on activities. Developed by Google and the West Virginia University Extension Service, it is a four-part challenge that teaches computer science skills through dance, digital animation, and gaming. The kit includes student guides and a facilitator guide. Activities include offline coding activities (coding dance moves, coin/dice games, geography activities) and online skills using Scratch for programming. The kit also includes an 'Animate Your Name' activity. Suitable for school, club, or homeschool settings. No prior coding or computer science experience required to facilitate.

The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide middle and high school STEM competition sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is open to all middle and high school students living or attending school in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District (Congressman Brad Knott). Students may compete individually or in teams of up to four, provided at least half the team lives or attends school in a competing Congressional District. Apps may be submitted on any topic, any platform (mobile app, website, robot, wearable device, game, etc.), and using any programming language (C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Swift, block code, etc.). The app must have some degree of functionality and be original and solely owned by the contestant. Eligible apps must have been completed between October 30, 2025 and October 26, 2026. The submission deadline is October 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET. The winning app will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, receive a Copyright Fee Waiver through the ARTS Act, be featured on the Congressional App Challenge webpage and House.gov, and the winner will receive an invitation to attend the #HouseOfCode celebration inside the U.S. Capitol.

The Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr. Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from designated counties in North Carolina. Selection is based on academic achievement, commendable character, and participation in extracurricular activities. The Yinghsia Shih Li Memorial Scholarship honors Yinghsia Shih Li, who overcame humble beginnings in China and WWII to earn her undergraduate physics degree in Taiwan and Master's in Physics in the United States. This scholarship supports young female students with Yinghsia's determined nature and passion for STEM. Open to female high school seniors graduating from San Luis Obispo County, California with minimum 3.0 GPA pursuing STEM degrees (agricultural science, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, or physics). Two applicants will be selected to earn $10,000 each per year. The scholarship is renewable.
