Nature's Skyscrapers: Understanding NC's Trees

Nature's Skyscrapers is a seminar dedicated to the giants of our landscape. We will explore the majestic canopy species that define the Tar Heel state, from the ancient Bald Cypresses of our blackwater swamps to the towering White Oaks and Tulip Poplars of the Piedmont. Audience Target: Adults and teens ages 10+. Ideal for anyone who is interested in trees. Please Note: Because many of our events have limited capacity and require advance planning, we're not able to offer refunds for participant cancellations, reschedules, or missed attendance.

Forestry Day in the Legislature

The NCFA sponsors an annual Forestry Day in the Legislature. The event provides an opportunity for NCFA members to come to Raleigh and meet with their elected officials in a relaxed atmosphere. This year's event will be enhanced by our collaboration with the North Carolina Trucking Association. Forestry Day will include an evening reception from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. NCFA members are encouraged to meet with their elected officials throughout the day, or the following day. Forestry Day in the Legislature is a highly anticipated and popular event with the members of the North Carolina General Assembly and their staff.

2026 Virginia Interagency Wildland Fire Academy

DOF's 2026 Statewide Interagency Wildfire Academy will be held at Longwood University from May 27-30, 2026. Special two-week registration period exclusively for full-time DOF employees is currently open. Regular open registration for the academy will begin on Monday, February 23rd, 2026. Urban Arboriculture Arborist Program (UAAP)

Native Tree Farm and Research (NTFR) Urban Arboriculture Arborist Summer Camp introduces campers to the science, stewardship, and hands-on work of caring for urban environments. Students (ages 16-24) learn invasive pest control care and behavior observations while tackling DC region's invasive spotted lanternfly environments. Participants will explore DC's tree canopy with certified arborists, study tree biology, health and soil science, monitor, capture and assess lanternflies, collect specimens and record data, learn invasive pest control strategies that protect urban ecosystems, observe climbing demonstrations and learn pruning basics, and discover how trees support climate resilience. Participants develop practical arboriculture skills and explore careers in forestry, landscaping and conservation through real-world problem-solving. Dates: June 22 - Aug. 7

Lambeth Family Scholarship

The Lambeth Family Scholarship is available to high school seniors who are residents of Washington. Students planning to pursue postsecondary education in business, computer science/information technology, environmental studies, engineering, economics, forestry, natural sciences, or mathematics are encouraged to apply. Recipients are chosen for their academic strength, leadership, and participation in extracurricular and community activities. Minimum GPA requirement is 3.0. The scholarship is renewable.
