WV State Conservation Camp

Since 1941, the WV State Conservation Camp has welcomed youth from all over the state. The goal is to acquaint West Virginia youth with the social and economic values of natural resources and environment, create a desire to save and defend these resources, and develop future conservation leaders. Classes include Fish Management, Forest Protection, Conservation Law Enforcement, Nature Awareness, Watershed Management, Wildlife Management, Soil Conservation, Forest Management, Youth Conservation, Parks and Recreation, Forest Products, and Water Quality Conservation. Additional activities include Trap Shooting, Archery, Small Boat Safety/Handling, Rappelling, Ax Throwing, Stream Quality Improvement, .22 Caliber Rifle Marksmanship, Outdoor Cooking, Fishing Skills, Non-game Wildlife, and traditional camp activities. Camp runs Monday June 8 - Friday June 12, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday. Participants sleep in supervised cabins with bunk-style beds. Altitude above 2,500 feet - prepare for cool weather even in summer.

Mid-Atlantic Compact Wildfire Training Academy

The 2026 Mid-Atlantic Compact Wildfire Training Academy will be held at Garrett College in McHenry, Maryland from June 8-12, 2026. This academy has an active registration website with a one-month special registration period for all full-time DOF personnel. Full-time DOF personnel need supervisory approval and should contact Chad Briggs for a special code providing free registration and early access. Regular open enrollment begins March 9, 2026.
