The Louisville Zoo, in partnership with LG&E and KU Foundation, invites families and individuals to join Kids in Action, an initiative for students in grades preschool to 12th grade. Part of the Zoo's Earth Month Celebration throughout April. Students design conservation projects in categories: AIR, EARTH, WATER, ANIMAL, and SERVICE. Willard's Wonderings & Watauga Wanderings is a special program series hosted by BRAHM's Programs & Outreach Director Willard Watson III. This session focuses on Dr. Estep's research on ramps (wild leeks), which provides the first preliminary genetic evidence supporting the recognition of narrow-leaf ramps as a second taxon. The research establishes foundational genetic tools for understanding ramp taxonomy and informs conservation strategies for this increasingly exploited forest species.

April Stewardship Event

Come help out at Lost Valley Prairie SNA, a beautiful bedrock bluff prairie featuring a series of limestone ridges and dry swales that a number of remarkable plant and animal species call home. Join the Lost Valley Prairie Site Stewards in searching for and removing invasive species. Tools, instructions, and good camaraderie will be provided. Bring water, lunch, and dress for working in the weather. If you have your own gloves you'd like to use, please bring those as well. Footware appropriate for outdoor work/hiking is recommended. There are no maintained trails or recreational facilities on this site. Registration in-advance is required, and the event will be capped at 20 attendees.
