The 2026 Summer Reading Program 'Unearth a Story' runs from June 13 through the summer at Carteret County Public Library branches. The theme explores dinosaurs, fossils, and prehistoric life through reading challenges, science programs, art activities, and special events. Nuclear Science Week (NSW) 2026 is an international, week-long celebration running October 19-23, 2026, with Wilmington, NC selected as the national host city. The Wilmington Area Local Section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) is organizing the event, with strong industry partnerships including Duke Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Each day of NSW focuses on a different aspect of nuclear technologies—ranging from energy and medicine to innovation, careers, and environmental stewardship. Planned activities include hands-on student experiences, facility tours, and community events. Local events also take place nationwide during the same week. Wilmington previously hosted NSW in 2016. The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is located at 601 Eubank SE, Albuquerque, NM 87123.

Coastal Carolina Riverwatch will host the 2026 Water Quality for Fisheries Symposium on October 19-20, 2026 at Sturgeon City in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Bringing the symposium to Onslow County reflects the strong leadership and engagement shown during the 2025 event, including participation from multiple Onslow County Commissioners. The event is an annual collaborative forum for the exchange of information on recent research, infrastructure best management practices, policy development, restoration and resilience projects, and advocacy that protects the quality of water and quality of life for all in coastal NC.
