Join us for the Girls & Science Kick Off Event to meet the mentors and participate in hands-on STEM activities. Science for All Youth Summit

A conference-style event designed for students in grades 4-7 from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds in STEM. Features hands-on activities led by graduate and undergraduate students from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State University, and Duke University. Activities include: Colorful Chemistry, Ziplines engineering challenge, Ping Pong Pickup device building, computer science concepts without computers, biology DNA extraction, and strawberry DNA experiments. Illumination Stations -Shedding a Light on Energy Programs

Illuminations Stations are information tables that provide an opportunity to shine a light on ways for people to lower their utility bills, apply for energy assistance, and receive items to help them keep money in their pockets! Visitors can bring old incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs to swap them for new energy efficient LED light bulbs (limit 3 LEDs per person). In collaboration with Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Pepco.

Brown Brain Fair

Come discover the human brain! Ever wonder how we learn and remember? How do optical illusions work? Come hold a real preserved brain or look at neurons through a microscope. Check out "brains in a dish" or try your hand at an EEG recording. Experience virtual reality or make original digital art using your own brain waves! Younger kids can enjoy crafts, games, tasty treats, and face painting. At the Brown Brain Fair you'll find more than 20 labs, organizations, and institutes who will give you a glimpse of their research using games and fun demonstrations. Each year, the fair has been attended by over 600 people. It won "Event of the Year" from the Brown Student Activities Office and was covered by several media outlets, including the Providence Journal and the Brown Daily Herald. This year, the Brown Brain Fair will be at Hazeltine Commons on March 16th, from 10AM to 2PM.
