BRIT Reads Book Club: "Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel" by Carl Safina

Do you love to read? Are you passionate about botany, natural history, sustainability and similar topics? Then, you'll love the BRIT Reads Book Club! This informal group meets every other month to discuss a chosen book, in-person and virtually. We begin with a moderator summarizing the book and reviewing its key points. Then there is an opportunity for discussion--all are encouraged to share their perspectives and thoughts. You will leave with new information, new perspectives and new connections to others with shared interests. Don't have time to read the book? No worries! Join us to hear the review and jump in on the discussion! In April, join us to discuss Carl Safina's Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel, which brings forth powerful and illuminating insight into the unique personalities of animals through extraordinary stories of animal joy, grief, jealousy, anger, and love. Mother's Day at the Zoo

Celebrate Mom with the variety of Zoo mothers and their little wild ones. All moms will be celebrated during this special day whether they have toes, paws, hooves or claws. Enjoy music around every corner with the family as you learn more about how the animals raise their young at the Zoo. Honolulu Zoo Society Summer Day Camps

Experience summer fun at the Honolulu Zoo Society's Summer Day Camps where children dive deep into the animal kingdom. Structured to foster knowledge and appreciation of wildlife, these camps provide engaging educational activities such as crafts, games, and direct interaction with bio-artifacts, all centered around weekly themes that meet national science curriculum standards. Camps are offered for three age brackets: Menehune ages 5-6, ʻImi Loa ages 7-9, and Koa ages 10-13. Zoo Music

Bring the family to Zoo Music during the summer to enjoy performances by national touring entertainment. Plan to spend an evening with wildlife, food, music and fun. Kids will have fun getting their faces painted. Adults with an ID can order a drink from the variety of bars at the Zoo. Ecology Camp Gorham2

Discover and explore the natural world that exists within five local ecosystems that make up Maine's ecology. Campers will learn the basic ideas of ecology and how living things interact with each other and their nonliving environment. Each day will have a different theme focusing on the habitats around us including forests; freshwater, coastal, and peatland wetlands; and open field habitats. Through daily field trips and activities, campers will observe and study the natural environment of plants and animals typically found within habitats located in our community. Campers will gain an understanding of how plants and animals use physical and behavioral adaptations, as well as interactions with other species, to live in these habitats.
