Real-time control (RTC) is an emerging technology that allows stormwater ponds, rainwater harvesting systems, and other stormwater control measures to respond dynamically to rainfall events using sensors and automated controls. The workshop will cover the open-source system StormPack RTC for stormwater ponds, simple methods for RTC rainwater harvesting, and real-world case studies from Convergent and Opti. The workshop will end with a tour of two RTC installation sites. Audience includes those who design, review, or maintain SCMs.

Registration is open for Great Connections 2026 in Dubuque, Iowa. The two-day conference (October 14-15, 2026) brings together stormwater, erosion control, and watershed professionals to share solutions.

Coastal Carolina Riverwatch will host the 2026 Water Quality for Fisheries Symposium on October 19-20, 2026 at Sturgeon City in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Bringing the symposium to Onslow County reflects the strong leadership and engagement shown during the 2025 event, including participation from multiple Onslow County Commissioners. The event is an annual collaborative forum for the exchange of information on recent research, infrastructure best management practices, policy development, restoration and resilience projects, and advocacy that protects the quality of water and quality of life for all in coastal NC.

Trout in the Classroom (TIC) introduces students (ideal for grades 5-8) to ecology, population biology, water quality, fish anatomy, and conservation. Teachers and students raise trout from eggs to fingerlings in the classroom. The program is a collaboration between Trout Unlimited, the Wyoming Council of Trout Unlimited, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Applications open July 1 through September 4. Selected schools attend a required orientation seminar on October 22, 2026. Equipment is received in November, eggs are delivered in January, and trout are released in May at pre-approved locations. Curriculum meets Wyoming science education standards and provides STEM/STEAM experience.

NC State's Rainwater Harvester is NCDEQ's principal model for modeling rainwater harvesting systems and is required for design of those systems. This training will review many different aspects of rainwater harvesting systems, including how well they work, appropriate design considerations, how to use the Rainwater Harvester Tool, and how its outputs tie into the SNAP (Stormwater Nutrient and Phosphorus) Tool. Common installation and maintenance concerns will also be addressed. The model has undergone a major improvement regarding inputs and outputs.

ISU's Dr. Adam Janke will present on research regarding water quality and wildlife conservation in Iowa, including student projects. Program begins at 6:45pm per standard Tuesday night schedule.

Maintenance includes hydrologic and water quality function, landscape functions, and consideration of impacts on human health and safety. After full participation in the workshop and passing the certification exam with a score of 80% or higher, attendees will become certified in SCM Inspection & Maintenance.
