POCTF is designed for learners, newcomers, and anyone exploring the world of cybersecurity and CTFs. Whether this will be your first competition or your next milestone, this contest is built to be accessible, educational, and community-driven. The Pointer Overflow CTF is organized in honor of the students and alumni of the CIS: Cybersecurity program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The contest continues to support our mission of expanding hands-on cybersecurity education through the Center for Cybersecurity Studies and Advanced Research. The Bloomington Pumpkin Launch is an annual fall event where teams build mechanical pumpkin-launching devices and compete in accuracy and distance contests. Spectators can watch pumpkins soar, including drops from a bucket truck. The event features live music, autumn-themed activities for kids, and food vendors. Launcher divisions include Youth Human Powered (elementary/middle school), Student Human Powered (high school/college), and Adult Human Powered. Size classes: Large (5+ lbs), Small (2-4 lbs), and Mini (<2 lbs, all components fit in a single vehicle). Cannons and chemically powered launchers are NOT permitted — mechanical only. No fuel, compressed air, electricity, explosives, or other chemical/fluid components allowed (exception: small powered winch to cock throwing arm). A safety strap is required on the throwing arm after cocking. Catapult-style devices must launch overhand, not sidearm. Each team competes in four rounds each for accuracy and distance, and must bring a minimum of eight pumpkins weighing 5–8 lbs. Launcher team registration deadline is October 16, 2026. No fee to register a launcher.

A low-pressure Skills Only event for the 2026-27 VEX IQ Level Up season on Sunday, October 25. Teams' robots do not need to be finished to participate. Part of gainingSTEAM's support of Nebraska's VEX IQ robotics community. gainingSTEAM supports tournaments across Nebraska with fields, scoring systems, displays, trained volunteers, and technical assistance.

The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide middle and high school STEM competition sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is open to all middle and high school students living or attending school in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District (Congressman Brad Knott). Students may compete individually or in teams of up to four, provided at least half the team lives or attends school in a competing Congressional District. Apps may be submitted on any topic, any platform (mobile app, website, robot, wearable device, game, etc.), and using any programming language (C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Swift, block code, etc.). The app must have some degree of functionality and be original and solely owned by the contestant. Eligible apps must have been completed between October 30, 2025 and October 26, 2026. The submission deadline is October 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET. The winning app will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, receive a Copyright Fee Waiver through the ARTS Act, be featured on the Congressional App Challenge webpage and House.gov, and the winner will receive an invitation to attend the #HouseOfCode celebration inside the U.S. Capitol.

SHPE National Convention serves as one of the country's largest annual gathering of talented STEM students and professionals. The convention brings together thousands of scientists, mathematicians, and engineers for STAR Awards, competitions, workshops, networking events, and career opportunities.

The North Dakota Signature is a VEX Robotics Signature Event presented by Bifrost Manufacturing, hosted by the UND College of Engineering & Mines at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, ND. The event runs October 31 to November 2, 2026. In its inaugural year, approximately 250 teams comprised of 1,500 middle and high school students are expected to participate. VEX Robotics competitions are the largest and fastest-growing middle and high school robotics program globally, with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries. Community members are welcome to attend as spectators. Similar events have generated nearly $1 million in economic impact for the Grand Forks area.

The Mini Carolinas Conference (MC²) is Charlotte Engineering's hands-on version of the college-level Carolinas Conference. High school students spend a full day exploring engineering through interactive competitions, lab tours, and opportunities to meet current students and faculty. The competition day runs from 8:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and includes a pizza lunch. Spaces are limited — first come, first served. 2026 Timeline: Application opens mid-September; first acceptances and waitlist notifications sent by end of September (rolling after); teams of 6, student registration, and photo opt-outs due October 23; event on November 6, 2026. Features 5 engineering events. Photos and videos may be captured and used by the University unless opt-out arrangements are made with Kelly Anderson at least three weeks before the event.
