The Hawai'i Young Investigators Program (HYIP) provides grants for students in grades 6-12 to subsidize costs of supplies needed to conduct independent research projects. Students must apply to a School or District Science & Engineering Fair (grades 6-12) or the Hawaii JSHS (grades 9-12). Applicants must be enrolled in a Hawaii public, private, or home school. To apply: complete the HYIP SY26-27 APPLICATION and submit by October 1, 2026 to acadsci@hawaii.edu. The number of grants awarded is contingent on funding. Applications for SY26-27 are now open. The program was started in 2022; in its first year 4 students received grants, growing to approximately 10 students in subsequent years.

Hands-on STEM activities and discussion of STEM career opportunities. Students' science projects judged by STEM professionals including representatives from Bright House Networks. Families participate in interactive science experiences at the museum.

School level fairs are completed by November. All elementary, middle, and high school students are eligible to participate in their school level science fair. Winners of the school level fair compete at the district level fair. Winners of the district fair continue on to regional fair held in January/February. Students create Science Fair projects that clearly demonstrate the use of the Scientific Method to solve a problem.

All STEM students in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in the Southwest Regional Science Fair at Western Wyoming College. The event follows Regeneron ISEF rules and guidelines. Categories include: Animal Sciences, Behavioral & Social Sciences, Biochemistry/Cellular & Molecular/Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, Biomedical & Health Sciences/Biomedical Engineering/Translational Medical Sciences, Chemistry/Energy: Chemical, Computer Science, Earth & Environmental Sciences/Environmental Engineering, Engineering Mechanics/Sustainable Materials & Design/Materials Science, Mathematical Sciences, Microbiology, Physics & Astronomy, and Plant Sciences. Divisions: Junior (6th-8th grade) and Senior (9th-12th grade). Projects involving Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animals, or Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents require pre-approval before data collection begins. All documentation must be submitted via the school shared folder. Top projects may advance to the University of Wyoming State Science Fair.

The Delaware Valley Regional High School Science Showcase is open to students in grades 1-8 from the district's geographic area. Students may work individually, with partners, or in groups. If students from different grade bands work together, they will be evaluated based on the oldest participant's grade band. Set up and breakfast runs from 8:00–9:00 AM for young scientists and their families. Doors open to the public at 9:00 AM. Judging takes place from 9:00–11:00 AM. Award recognitions and presentations begin after 11:00 AM. Students must be present on Showcase Day to be considered for a prize. Parents must register via a Google Form by January 1, 2027, and will receive a confirmation email in the last week of January to confirm participation, table/location needs, and submission title.

The West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair acts as an entry point for West Virginia high school students to qualify for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Top projects from this fair may advance to the international competition. Resources are available for students, judges, and fair coordinators on the WVDE website.

The 72nd annual Fairfax County Regional Science and Engineering Fair runs March 12–14, 2027 at Robinson Secondary School. The fair is a competition for high school students attending school in Fairfax County. Students earn entry through science fairs held at their local public or private schools. The fair is open to the public on Sunday, March 14 from 1–3 p.m. during the Open House. Over 250 judges evaluate projects in categories ranging from astronomy to plant science to biomedical engineering. Approximately 40–60 STEM-related organizations provide Special Awards. Non-FCPS Independent Schools must confirm intent to participate and attend a mandatory information meeting by December 1. Important related dates: Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair (April 2–3, 2027); Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (May 8–14, 2027).

The 52nd Annual Jersey Shore Science Fair (JSSF) serves middle to high school students from up to 40 or more schools from New Jersey's coastal counties (Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean, and Monmouth). The event is in-person only and is held at Stockton University in mid-March. Students compete in fifteen categories ranging from biological sciences to engineering to behavioral science. The fair attracts over 600 students. Registration is open November 1, 2026 through February 21, 2027. Abstract and form submissions are due by March 3, 2027. Project category changes must be made by February 24, 2027. The JSSF follows ISEF rules and guidelines. Scientific Review Committee (SRC) approval for projects involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, hazardous materials, or other potentially hazardous activities must be completed prior to conducting the experiment. Winning projects advance to the Delaware Valley Regional Science Fair (DVRSF): Junior (grades 6-8): 1st and 2nd place non-team and team categories; Intermediate (grades 9-10): 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place; Upper (grades 11-12): 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The JSSF is one of fourteen regional fairs feeding into the DVRSF, where top projects can advance to the international level.
