2026 Wisconsin State KidWind Challenge & Renewable Energy Expo

The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on renewable energy competition that engages students in STEM. Student teams bring small-scale wind turbines or solar devices that they've designed to the Challenge where they will be tested for power output. Teams also meet with a panel of expert judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge and tackle instant challenge activities. The event features a Renewable Energy Expo from 12:00 - 2:45 PM with ~20 hands-on science activities, interactions with scientists, and opportunities to build and test turbines. Challenge begins with opening ceremony at 9:00 AM and wraps up with awards at 3:00 PM. Top performers will be invited to the 2026 World KidWind Challenge at UW-Madison in May. Registration is closed for competing teams but public is welcome to spectate.

SeaPerch Challenge

The SeaPerch Challenge is a hands-on underwater robotics competition where K-12 students design, build, and operate their own remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Students participate in pool-based challenges including obstacle courses and mission courses simulating post-storm recovery efforts. Teams also participate in judges' interviews to showcase their engineering process. The event features three divisions: Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Spring into STEM Lab

Celebrate the arrival of spring with Spring STEM Lab, an all-day, hands-on STEM camp for students ages 4-13. From April 2nd to April 10th, young innovators will explore the wonders of the natural world, design and build creative projects, and engage in coding, robotics, and environmental science activities. Each day features a new theme that inspires curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Students will grow their skills through project-based, student-centered lessons that blend science, technology, engineering, and math with creativity and fun. Activities include designing eco-friendly habitats, building circuits and robots, experimenting with chemistry, coding games and animations, and engineering inventive solutions for real-world challenges. By the end of the camp, participants will have gained practical STEM skills, strengthened their critical thinking and teamwork abilities, and discovered how they can use innovation to make a positive impact in their community.
