Science for All Youth Summit

A conference-style event designed for students in grades 4-7 from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds in STEM. Features hands-on activities led by graduate and undergraduate students from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State University, and Duke University. Activities include: Colorful Chemistry, Ziplines engineering challenge, Ping Pong Pickup device building, computer science concepts without computers, biology DNA extraction, and strawberry DNA experiments. Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day

Come out to the North Carolina Transportation Museum for a day of Scouting fun. All Cub Scouts, whether you're a Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelo/Arrow of Light, will have the opportunity to become a Transportation Explorer and complete the requirements for several transportation related Belt Loops/Pins. Participating Lions, Tigers, Wolves, and Bears will each earn two Adventure Loops while Webelo and Arrow of Light participants will earn one Adventure Pin. During the day, enjoy our Cub Scout Day activities, a train ride, scavenger hunt, and much more. Lunch will be provided for all event ticket holders. This is a great opportunity for cubs to interact with other packs/dens, make connections, and build relationships. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Pre-registration is required for this event. This future-forward panel brings together a non-profit leader, policy advocates, and a researcher to explore how cross-sector coalitions are protecting immigrant youth while effecting systemic change. From school design to education policy, panelists will share how they work across boundaries and shift the narrative about immigrant youth to ensure they are welcomed, supported, and able to thrive in schools.

Coding with Python (Ages 10-14)

A six-week course for ages 10 to 14 designed to spark interest in programming through guided instruction by experienced high school mentors. The Richard Montgomery High School robotics team, Rocket Robotics, offers this free, 6-week coding course for middle school students to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of programming using Python. Students will learn basic Python syntax, data manipulation, control structures like loops and if statements, and creating reusable methods. Course runs Wednesdays from February 11 - March 25 with no class on March 4. Students should bring their own laptop computers if possible, though limited laptops will be available.
