May Bird Walk

Join us for the monthly SDBG-hosted Bird Walk! Every 2nd Wednesday. Led by our birding specialists Jeff Clingan, Christina Kidd, Patti Langen, and Rick Grove. SDBG is a birding hotspot, providing a home to our native birds, migrants, and wintering guests. Starting promptly at 8:00 a.m. to gain the most out of our early morning birding hours, the group searches out the greatest number of bird species in our native and ornamental gardens. The experience varies according to the season and always provides an unique, interesting, and informative walk through the Garden. All those interested in birding, beginner to expert, are invited to attend.

Mahogany Rock Hawk Watch

At the Mahogany Rock Hawk Watch migration site, viewers can count thousands of raptors in just one day! This year we will return to Mahogany Rock for the 2026 annual count to hopefully spot raptors "kettling" in the thermal updrafts and making their way south for the winter. The height of activity is between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. BRDC staff will be on site during these times from September 21-24. Anyone is welcome to join! Learn how to identify species by silhouette and flight pattern, and contribute to citizen science while witnessing the wonder of fall migration. Bring a lawn chair, sack lunch, water, and binoculars if you have them.
