Birdwatching on the Homesite

Join us for a 1.5-hour guided bird walk through the historic homesite. Winter is one of the best times to observe the many species that call the homesite home, and participants can expect to see 15-20 different birds along the way. This relaxed outdoor walk will take you across the grounds as Anne shares tips for identification, insight into winter bird behavior, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that thrives among our historic landscape. Please bring your own binoculars, bundle up, and wear close-toed shoes suitable for uneven terrain. Spots limited! Museum Admission Included!

2nd Saturday Bird Walk

Second Saturday Bird Walks in the Heard Wildlife Sanctuary are offered by volunteers from the Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society (PTAS). These bird walks are intended to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques. There are also plenty of opportunities provided for participants to ask questions from experienced birders. Prairie, woodland, and wetland habitats are included in these walks. Optional extended time is available by participant request. Be sure to arrive on time, because if you come a few minutes late, the group may have already started their walk.
