Participants will become crime scene investigators as they examine clues, collect evidence, and use real forensic techniques to solve a mystery. Activities include: securing and documenting a mock crime scene, learning evidence handling and chain-of-custody procedures, creating and analyzing footprint casts, lifting and comparing fingerprints, examining splatter patterns, and working as a team to solve a simulated crime mystery. Each participant receives their own Crime Scene Forensics Kit to take home. Ages 8-11. Open to the public — you don't have to be a Scout to attend.

The Discovery Center's signature Tennessee STEAM Festival kick-off event featuring local artists, scientists and engineers for all-ages, hands-on fun. Activities include robotics, composting, cosmetics, creative arts, physics, environmental conservation, mathematics, meteorology and more. Live performances and food trucks included. Rain or shine event. Overflow parking available at Holloway High School (619 S Highland Ave, Murfreesboro, TN 37130).

A full day of building, experimenting, and making with a Mad Science theme. Includes magnetic tile building, STEM projects/activities, and a snack/lunch break. Campers may be walked to the local park (16th and 8th) depending on weather. Campers must be in Kindergarten or above and at least 5 years old, and must be potty trained. Bring a packed lunch, snack, hat, and labeled water bottle. Spots are limited and grouped by grade.

Three-day fall break camps running October 14–16, 2026, for kids in 1st through 6th grade. Camps focus on science topics including chemistry, engineering, and coding. Pre-K/Kindergarten camp is sold out (waitlist available via camps@discoverylab.org). Campers must be born before September 1, 2022, to register. Camp placements must match listed age/grade requirements. Drop-off begins at 8:50 AM and camps begin at 9:00 AM. Pick-up for 1st–6th grade begins at 3:50 PM and ends at 4:00 PM. Lunch, snacks, and water are provided. Before and after care available (drop-off between 8–9 AM, pick-up no later than 5 PM). Campers may stay and play in the museum after pick-up at no additional cost.

Energy Day is Houston's largest FREE family STEM festival hosted by the Consumer Energy Education Foundation (CEEF). The event features hands-on exhibits and interactive demonstrations focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with an energy industry focus. Activities include: rocket launches, solar power experiments, liquid nitrogen gas demonstrations, a slime lab exploring chemistry, wind power/windmill building, and geology/oil & gas drilling simulations. The event also features the Energy Day Academic Program (EDAP), which includes citywide school competitions in STEM and energy topics leading up to the festival. A robotics tournament (Kendrick Castillo Memorial Robotics Tournament) is also a highlight. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available.

This hands-on, laboratory-based introductory workshop provides a broad overview of basic concepts in pulp and paper manufacturing, including pulping, bleaching, chemical recovery, recycling, papermaking and converting. Course consists of morning presentations and afternoon hands-on laboratory and pilot-plant exercises. Participants will run pilot plant paper machines and conduct various lab experiments. Limited to 42 participants for maximum effectiveness. Registration coming soon.

The Yinghsia Shih Li Memorial Scholarship honors Yinghsia Shih Li, who overcame humble beginnings in China and WWII to earn her undergraduate physics degree in Taiwan and Master's in Physics in the United States. This scholarship supports young female students with Yinghsia's determined nature and passion for STEM. Open to female high school seniors graduating from San Luis Obispo County, California with minimum 3.0 GPA pursuing STEM degrees (agricultural science, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, or physics). Two applicants will be selected to earn $10,000 each per year. The scholarship is renewable.

AVS Science Educators' Workshop on November 9-10, 2026, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A two-day in-service workshop on low-pressure experiments and modeling for high school science teachers from the United States and Canada, held since 1990. The workshop has five elements: (1) lectures on underlying science and mathematical calculations, (2) hands-on experiments and model development under instructor guidance, (3) onsite visit to a major industrial or research laboratory, (4) overview of science and technologies using vacuum technology, and (5) lessons on vacuum pump operation and maintenance. Approved for CEUs and aligned with national science and mathematics standards. Participating teachers receive a Certificate of Completion, 1.5 CEUs from the University of Dayton, and a vacuum system for their school (school must sign a liability release). Application deadline: September 18, 2026.
