Behind-the-scenes experience with sand tiger sharks and southern stingrays. Participants will hand feed a 5-foot southern stingray, help train and feed leopard sharks, and receive a special gift from one of the sharks. Multiple dates available throughout 2026. Minimum age 8+, participants under 16 must be accompanied by paying adult. Small set of stairs involved.
Science on the Rocks is a 21+ adults-only after-hours event at Discovery Place Science in Charlotte, NC. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the event runs until 10:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy cocktails, live DJ music, animal encounters, science shows, and hands-on activities in the labs across all floors of the museum. The 3-story Charlotte IMAX Dome Theatre is also open. June add-ons include a Glass Etching workshop (learn the chemistry behind glass etching while customizing a glass) and timed-entry IMAX documentary screenings (Apollo 11 at 7:00 p.m., Call of the Dolphins at 8:00 p.m., T.REX at 9:00 p.m.). 12-day intensive academic program for grades 6-12 featuring morning and afternoon academic blocks (9:00 AM - 12:15 PM and 1:30 PM - 4:45 PM), guest speakers, interactive activities, field trips, and comprehensive residential experience. 2-Day Wilderness Survival Basics - June 13-14, 2026
This is a hands-on course teaching the fundamental basics for survival! Most rescues happen within the first 72-hours. Make sure you are equipped to stabilize your situation and assist in your own rescue during these critical hours. Course takes place at private woodland classroom, Hemlock Ridge. Optional camping on Saturday night.
