Writing With Pictures: A Multimodal Introduction to Writing for College

This two-week online pre-college course introduces high school students to the expectations, strategies, and creative possibilities of college-level writing. Students will explore how writing today involves more than words - writers compose with images, design, sound, layout, and digital tools. Through daily workshops, peer activities, and guided practice, students will learn the foundations of academic writing, while also developing multimodal compositions using tools like Canva. Live sessions meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 12:30 - 2:30pm EST. Course runs June 28 - July 11, 2026. Students will create a polished multimodal final project in Canva, accompanied by a written reflection explaining their design and writing choices.
