CoderDojo with Iowa PBS Education

CoderDojo is a free STEM program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade. It offers various stations with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) activities. Children can freely explore any station that catches their interest. Mentors are available at each station to help them get started, allowing students to learn and explore on their own. This session is in collaboration with Iowa PBS Education.

Iowa Regional FIRST Robotics Competition

Multi-day FIRST Robotics Competition bringing together more than 50 high school teams from the Midwest and beyond. Teams compete with robots they designed, built, and programmed. Event includes qualification matches, alliance selections, playoff matches, and awards ceremony. Open to public Thursday 8:30am-6pm, Friday 8am-5:45pm, and Saturday with full competition schedule. Saturday features opening ceremonies at 8:30am, qualification matches until 12:15pm, lunch break, playoff matches 1:30-4:30pm, and awards ceremony until 6pm. UNI offers $2,000 STEM scholarships to participating juniors. Volunteers needed for field reset, safety monitoring, and crowd control.

Bart Nelson Memorial Sheep Scholarship

The Bart Nelson Memorial Sheep Scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors from Iowa, who have been involved in sheep projects or activities. Students planning to attend a community college, college, or university in Iowa are encouraged to apply. Special consideration is given to students who show a desire to remain active in the sheep industry after graduation. Expected to reopen in November 2026 with deadline in February 2027.
