24th Annual Birdhouse Competition

The 24th Annual Birdhouse Competition is part of Raulston Blooms! event. Competition is open to all ages with categories for Adults (Functional and Flight of Fancy), Creativity for All (individuals/groups with disabilities), and Youth (ages 6 and under, 7-11, 12-14, and grades 9-12). Birdhouses must be complete before drop-off on April 24. Judging criteria includes functionality, craftsmanship, aesthetics, and creativity. Winners announced on social media and Visitors' Choice Awards determined by spare change voting.

Traditional Skiff Building Pre-College Program

This two-week course involves construction of an 11-foot Monhegan Island Skiff, a traditional wooden boat. Students will learn time-honored methods of craftsmanship and design, use hand tools like chisels and planes, develop joinery skills, and apply traditional building techniques. The course includes rowing, sculling, line handling, knots, and excursions exploring Maine's maritime heritage. The program includes a $40,000 scholarship for students who later matriculate at COA.
