Rising high school seniors (honor roll students who have completed junior year) may apply to take UNC-Chapel Hill courses for credit as a Summer School Visitor during Summer Session 2, 2026. International high school students are not eligible. Students may take a maximum of 4 credit hours in the Second Session. Courses are the same rigorous offerings as during the academic year but in a condensed format (classes meet ~90 min/day, plus 3-4 hours of out-of-class work daily). All grades become part of a UNC-CH academic transcript. Dual-enrolled high school students cannot audit courses. Students under 17 must live with parents or legal guardians while attending. Required supplemental materials include: current transcript, personal statement (with course name/number and purpose), and a letter of recommendation. NC residents must complete the NC Residency Determination Service process at www.ncresidency.org (deadline for Second Session: 6/27). Application deadline for rising high school seniors: June 10, 2026 (all required documents must be submitted by this date). Decision notifications begin in March 2026. Registration for accepted high school students begins March 12, 2026, and is handled by the academic director after acceptance. Note: Rising high school seniors may not take a UNC-CH class if their high school offers the same or comparable course.
