2026 Wisconsin State KidWind Challenge & Renewable Energy Expo

The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on renewable energy competition that engages students in STEM. Student teams bring small-scale wind turbines or solar devices that they've designed to the Challenge where they will be tested for power output. Teams also meet with a panel of expert judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge and tackle instant challenge activities. The event features a Renewable Energy Expo from 12:00 - 2:45 PM with ~20 hands-on science activities, interactions with scientists, and opportunities to build and test turbines. Challenge begins with opening ceremony at 9:00 AM and wraps up with awards at 3:00 PM. Top performers will be invited to the 2026 World KidWind Challenge at UW-Madison in May. Registration is closed for competing teams but public is welcome to spectate.

GIRL SCOUTS: Juniors - Crane Design Challenge

Mechanical Engineering is critical to building and shaping our world. In this workshop, Junior Girl Scouts discover the simple machines that make up cranes and are introduced to ideas in mechanical engineering. 2026 Environmental Design Competition

A high-intensity industry-simulation event where students adopt professional roles, are given industry specific challenges and deliver real-world solutions. Students form engineering companies, receive an RFP, design an entire futuristic space settlement, and pitch their design before a panel of industry experts. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with industry professionals providing feedback throughout the day. Companies will pitch presentations and participate in Q&A sessions, with one company crowned champion after dinner.

2026 Seacoast Seaperch Challenge

The Seacoast Seaperch Regional Competition is an annual event that includes different challenges for Seaperch teams. The 2026 challenge follows the International Seaperch Challenge format and includes an obstacle course to test ROV speed and maneuverability, a recovery mission to test teams' ability to move and manipulate objects, and a technical report for teams to highlight their design process. Teams consist of 2-6 students and up to 2 coaches. Registration is a two-step process with team pre-registration followed by final participant registration due in late February 2025.

FPE Summer Camp - Fire Protection Engineering Design Challenge

A week-long design and construction camp that ends in a team competition. In teams of 3 or 4, participants will design, test and build a two-room apartment along with the notification, detection and suppression systems in that apartment. The teams will bring their apartments to be fire-tested in a competition at the end of the week in the University of Maryland fire labs. Monday through Thursday will be at Mt. St. Joseph's. Students will be bussed to UMD on Friday for 'Burn Day' competition. Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (ET).
