Penn Summer Science Initiative (PSSI) 2026

Four-week intensive materials science course for high school juniors and seniors. Program runs Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily. Includes formal lectures from Penn faculty, materials science workshops, lab report writing seminars, projects, hands-on activities, and field trips. Students get exposure to scanning electron and optical microscopies, thermal analysis techniques, mechanical testing, and x-ray diffraction. Requirements: must have taken chemistry and/or physics courses, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and be within daily commuting distance of Penn's campus. Application requires resume, report card PDF, and 2 recommendation forms.
