Lake Junaluska Cleanup Day

Community cleanup focusing on clearing debris along shorelines and entrance roadways to Lake Junaluska. Meet at 9 a.m. outside Stuart Auditorium for check-in, release forms, instructions and supplies. Organizers provide water, snacks, garbage bags, litter pick-up sticks and gloves. Work done outside rain or shine. Adult chaperones required for youth volunteers. Liability waiver encouraged before arrival.

Get Outside All Together (G.O.A.T) Hikes

Join the F&W community for exploration of nature and time to connect with others in your area. Hikes will be led by a volunteer, will typically be one hour, and sometimes followed by a BYO lunch together. Includes a F&W classic circle up, a 1-1.5 hour hike/walk/stroll, learning something new about someone and/or the surrounding environment, and an unplugged & interconnected experience. 6th Annual BioBlitz at the Ashton Prairie Living Laboratory

Join researchers in collecting, observing, and recording biodiversity at the Ashton Prairie Living Laboratory. Your findings will inform a major research project and contribute to multi-year documentation of how diversity changes at this site over time. Collections will be housed with the UI Museum of Natural History. Participants will examine insects under professional microscopes, learn species identification with iNaturalist app, and learn about ecological research. All ages event, no experience required, families welcome. Rain or shine event. Park in Hawkeye Commuter Lot and follow signage to event site.
