Capitol Day

Participants will learn about the process of passing laws in the Nebraska Legislature and how to effectively communicate with policymakers before breaking into small groups to visit directly with state senators. This event is open to all women in STEM careers and is ideal for those who have little previous experience advocating for public policy. There will be an optional virtual meeting on Monday, March 2 to help participants prepare for the experience. Agenda includes: 9:15am - Presentation from a state senator, 10am - Observe legislative debate, 10:30am - Visit in small groups with state senators, Noon - Lunch and debrief. Nebraska Physics and Astronomy Summit

This conference is dedicated to providing a variety of professional development opportunities in astronomy and physics education for college, high school, and middle school teachers across the state of Nebraska. A theme of this event is the use of instructional technology to improve our teaching of astronomy and physics. The conference begins with a keynote, an exhibition hall, and your choice of four breakout sessions. After lunch, the second keynote and longer workshop sessions close out the day. Features sessions on simulating planet formation, neutrino citizen science, computational modeling, cosmological redshift, quantum physics, tornado forecasting with drones, video game physics, and HR diagram simulations.

Innovate: The Raikes School Way - Summer Computing Camp

Two-week summer camp for high school students interested in computing. Designed for students with little to no computing experience, with separate curriculum for those with moderate or advanced experience. Features project-oriented curriculum focusing on Java and Python, hands-on learning, visits to research labs and local tech companies including NIMBUS drone lab, Hudl, Nelnet, and Don't Panic Labs.
