Birdwatching on the Homesite

Join us for a 1.5-hour guided bird walk through the historic homesite. Winter is one of the best times to observe the many species that call the homesite home, and participants can expect to see 15-20 different birds along the way. This relaxed outdoor walk will take you across the grounds as Anne shares tips for identification, insight into winter bird behavior, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that thrives among our historic landscape. Please bring your own binoculars, bundle up, and wear close-toed shoes suitable for uneven terrain. Spots limited! Museum Admission Included!

Lantern Tour

Join us for a ranger led lantern tour of the battlefield. We will walk the 1.5-mile battlefield trail, so please dress for the weather. Each month the tour will have a different overall theme or focus, and will also touch on topics related to the night sky and the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Please arrive by 5:45PM, the program will end at 8:00PM. Reservations will be open on March 6th.

Teen Homeschool History Day: Extinction

Learn all about animals who have gone extinct in the past and the present. Discover prehistoric animals who called South Carolina home millions of years ago and see examples of animals who have gone extinct in the not-so-distant past on a guided tour of the Natural History Gallery. Discuss ways animals go extinct and brainstorm ideas of what we can do to eliminate these causes. Teen Homeschool History Day is a program geared for students 13 to 17 and features a field trip experience, a chance to go through the Museum, and an educational activity. Wednesday Walk

Explore nature through observation and a creative lens. The natural world has long been a source of respite, creativity, and wonder. Wednesday walks run bi-weekly through April. A variety of trails and topics will be incorporated so repeat participation is most welcome. Please arrive prepared with appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions. The distance and duration of this guided walk will vary depending on the chosen trail. Approximately 1 mile and 1.5 hours. This walk is geared towards adults, but ages 12 and older are welcome.

April Bird Walk

Join us for the monthly SDBG-hosted Bird Walk! Every 2nd Wednesday. Led by our birding specialists. SDBG is a birding hotspot, providing a home to our native birds, migrants, and wintering guests. Starting promptly at 8:00 a.m. to gain the most out of our early morning birding hours, the group searches out the greatest number of bird species in our native and ornamental gardens. The experience varies according to the season and always provides an unique, interesting, and informative walk through the Garden.
