A research-focused course at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus for high school students (grades 10-12). The program includes introduction to biomedical laboratory techniques, visits to cutting edge facilities, exploring the ethics of biomedical research, learning about research careers, meeting scientists, and developing scientific research proposals. Students will work with safety guidelines, experimental protocols, and lab notebooks. Scholarship support is available with applications due May 1, 2026. Program runs June 1-12, 9am-4pm daily. Come learn about the wild world of microbes inside and outside of the human body. Whether they are making us sick or keeping us healthy, microbes have a tremendous impact on our everyday lives. Together we'll investigate bacteria and viruses and how we defend ourselves from them, and we'll try out microbiology laboratory techniques. This camp will give us a glimpse of what's happening in the invisible world of microbes all around us! Duration: June 1-5, 9am-4pm daily. Includes hands-on laboratory work and outdoor activities. Participants should bring backpack, water bottle, snacks, lunch, closed-toe shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing.

Five-day hands-on forensic science camp including crime scene investigation, lab work, DNA analysis, and mock court case. Includes visit to State Crime Lab in Frankfort, KY. Residential camp with all food, lodging, and supplies included.

Aspiring biologists and naturalists will explore the animal life of the southern Appalachians through discussions, workshops, hands-on lab experiments, and field trips. Identify local species by searching for salamanders in a private reserve, snorkeling in clear mountain streams, and studying specimens under microscopes. A special evening field trip will offer the opportunity to observe the rare synchronous and blue-ghost fireflies at a private reserve. Learn to use zoological tools such as aquatic and insect nets, binoculars, and dissecting and compound microscopes. Field trips will focus on observing and identifying vertebrate wildlife across Western North Carolina's diverse habitats. Through readings and discussions, we'll also tackle questions like which species of wolves once roamed these mountains.
