A day of history and mystery featuring author Landis Wade discussing his new history mystery book 'Deadly Gold Rush: An Indie Retirement Mystery'. Wade will discuss the real stories behind the book, his writing process, and offer a chance to dig into the history of gold mining in the Queen City. After the talk, join a guided tour of the 1774 Rock House - Charlotte's oldest building - and see a cooking demonstration on an original kitchen hearth led by Janet Wade. Signed copies of books will be available for purchase at the event.

The Charlotte Gem Preservation Awards is the premiere fundraising event for the Charlotte Museum of History. These awards celebrate restoration and building projects in the greater Charlotte region that exemplify the best of historic preservation. A new Education category honors exceptional contributions to the study, teaching, and sharing of history in the greater Charlotte region. The event also honors a 'Charlotte Gem' - someone who actively works to make Charlotte and the Piedmont Region a better place through advocacy, volunteerism, and community support.
