Free Rain Garden Workshop in Haverford

Learn how to build and maintain a Rain Garden for yourself or in your community. Later, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills by joining our rain garden builds or apprenticing (i.e., assessing potential locations and designing rain gardens). Presented by Darby Creek Valley Association, Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative and Hav-a-Rain Garden who have designed and built more than 80 rain gardens in the region at parks, libraries and private properties.

Lake Junaluska Cleanup Day

Community cleanup focusing on clearing debris along shorelines and entrance roadways to Lake Junaluska. Meet at 9 a.m. outside Stuart Auditorium for check-in, release forms, instructions and supplies. Organizers provide water, snacks, garbage bags, litter pick-up sticks and gloves. Work done outside rain or shine. Adult chaperones required for youth volunteers. Liability waiver encouraged before arrival.

This free workshop teaches participants how to harvest rainwater from their roofs, store it, and use it in the landscape. Participants will learn watershed protection and conservation practices to reduce contribution to sewer and stormwater systems, flooding, and polluted urban runoff. Registrants receive a FREE 55-gallon FreeGarden rain barrel and downspout divertor while supplies last. Made possible through the support of the American Water Charitable Foundation. Two contests for Maui County students: Water Conservation Poster Contest for grades K-6 and Water Source Protection Video Contest for grades 7-12. Theme: 'Ola I Wai - Water is Life'. Workshop participants will learn how to harvest rainwater from their roofs, store it, and use it in the landscape. You will also learn how to reduce your contribution to combined sewer overflow (CSO), flooding, and polluted urban runoff by learning how to practice watershed protection and conservation in their own backyards. Registrants may also choose to purchase a FreeGarden RAIN barrel with 55-gallon capacity. Pittsburgh Water offers a one-time credit on your stormwater fee for installing a rain barrel that's at least 50-gal.
