Practice your drawing skills with a variety of plant subjects at the Garden! Bring your favorite portable medium and explore a new collection or artistic focus each month. Our award-winning artist instructor will start with a demonstration, then answer questions and provide tips and one-on-one attention throughout a free-drawing session. Welcome spring with the delicate lines and bright colors of beautiful blooming tulips near the Rose Garden. Registration includes Garden admission for the day. Materials: Please bring your favorite drawing pencils, pens and paper. This class is indoors and will proceed as scheduled, rain or shine.

This 4-week class students will take inspiration from the museum's Sensory Garden and collections to explore the link between creativity and the natural world. Students will experiment with a variety of drawing techniques and materials as they learn to look closely at details, patterns, and textures in nature. This class will give students the opportunity to engage their senses and connect more deeply with nature, grow observational skills, and use creative prompts to fill their journal with fascinating natural subjects. Join the Butterfly Pavilion and the Denver Art Museum for a two-part artistic adventure! In part one, students will learn to draw butterflies by exploring their representation in artworks from the Denver Art Museum's collections, while also discovering the fascinating anatomy of butterflies through the presentation of preserved specimens. In part two, students will be given a guided tour and immersed in the Butterfly Pavilion's lush conservatory, surrounded by thousands of free-flying butterflies. They will continue to refine their drawing practice in this natural setting with the opportunity to nature journal and draw from live or preserved specimens. This two-part workshop is perfect for artists and nature enthusiasts alike and does not require any prior technical knowledge. The first class meets in the Creative Hub, located on level 1 of the Martin Building at the Denver Art Museum. The second class meet at the Butterfly Pavilion. Summer Art Camp is one week full of inspiration and creative expressions led by experienced art instructors. Students plan their work, and create 2D and 3D projects in paint, pencil, and clay. Students will be encouraged to develop their own styles, and to experiment with different methods to hone their art skills. 9 a.m. -- 2 p.m.

6-day workshop (June 7-12, 2026) introducing essentials of drawing, perspective, composition, contrast, and basic watercolor techniques. Covers color relationships, value studies, simplifying scenes from photos and life, mood, atmosphere, and storytelling. Includes outdoor plein air painting weather permitting, instructor demonstrations, optional paint-along sessions, one-on-one guidance, and optional critiques.

Half Day Camp. Can art come from trees? Use paper, pencils, wood, and leaves to capture the nature around you. Discover the artistic tools hidden within trees. Section A: June 8 to June 12, 9:00 a.m. to noon. Section B: July 13 to July 17, 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Two-week intensive art and design courses for grades 9-12 including ceramics, drawing, interior architecture, and painting. Students work in professional studios with faculty and visiting artists. Residential and commuter options available.

Intensive pre-college program for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors preparing portfolios for art school admission. Each day includes morning and afternoon sessions covering drawing, design, and printmaking. Students will create portfolio pieces including drawings, collage-based design projects, and block prints. All housing and meals take place on Alfred University's campus.

Art Jr. Camp combines basic lessons in drawing, painting, crafting and sculpting with an exploration of current ASC and ARTSpace on Main art exhibitions. Students will create 2D and 3D projects, and focus not only on creating independently and working with different media, but also on creating projects with fellow campers. Monday-Friday, July 6-10, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

One-week residential art program for high school artists grades 8-12. Program includes drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, graphic design, animation, and filmmaking. Faculty-led studio sessions, artist talks, gallery visits, career seminars, and final student exhibition at Gatewood Gallery. Application window opens February 20. Collaboration between UNCG School of Art and Department of Media Studies.
